Dubai Completes Al Khail Road Development Project: Enhancing Traffic Flow Across Key Areas
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of all phases of the Al Khail Road Development Project. This extensive initiative involved constructing five bridges totaling 3,300 meters and widening roadways across 6,820 meters, significantly improving infrastructure in seven key locations across the city, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zabeel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadeer Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle.
The Al Khail Road Development Project is a major strategic undertaking aimed at enhancing traffic flow on one of Dubai’s key arterial routes. The project supports other vital corridors such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. Al Khail Road, which runs from Business Bay Crossing to its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, plays a crucial role in Dubai’s transportation network, consisting of five lanes in each direction with some sections widening to six lanes.
Serving around 1.5 million residents, the improvements have reduced travel times by 30% and increased the capacity of key intersections and bridges, allowing them to handle approximately 19,600 vehicles per hour. This development has also eliminated traffic bottlenecks, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhancing connectivity across the city.
Seven Key Locations Transformed
Zabeel: A 700-meter three-lane bridge was constructed between the intersections of Oud Metha Street and Financial Centre Street, connecting Zabeel Palace Street to Al Khail Road toward Jebel Ali. This bridge has a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour, improving traffic flow toward key business districts.
Meydan: A 610-meter bridge with two lanes was built between Al Meydan Road and Ras Al Khor Road intersections, enhancing access from Meydan Street to Al Khail Road toward Deira. The bridge accommodates 3,200 vehicles per hour, and 1,550 meters of road improvements were made to support traffic toward Ras Al Khor Street.
Al Quoz 1: A two-lane, 650-meter bridge was constructed between Al Meydan Road and Al Waha Street intersections, easing the flow of 3,200 vehicles per hour from Meydan Street to Al Khail Road toward Jebel Ali. Additional improvements included 2,170 meters of surface roads linking Al Waha Street and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street.
Ghadeer Al Tair: A 640-meter two-lane bridge was built between Al Meydan Road and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, connecting traffic toward Deira with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. Surface road enhancements spanning 1,350 meters were also carried out.
Jumeirah Village Circle: A 700-meter two-lane bridge was constructed to connect Al Khail Road to Hessa Street, easing the movement of 3,200 vehicles per hour. Additionally, 900 meters of surface road improvements linked Jumeirah Village Circle to Al Khail Road toward Deira.
Al Jaddaf: Surface expansion on Al Khail Road in Al Jaddaf added a new lane over 600 meters, boosting capacity by 2,000 vehicles per hour and improving traffic flow toward Deira between Oud Metha Street and Financial Centre Street.
Business Bay: To improve access to Business Bay, an extra lane over 435 meters was added to Al Khail Road, streamlining traffic flow and enhancing safety toward Jebel Ali.
With the completion of this project, Al Khail Road now offers smoother, safer travel for Dubai’s residents, tourists, and daily commuters, playing a critical role in supporting the city’s growing infrastructure needs.
