Discovering Dubai: A Journey of Transformation

Greetings, readers! My name is Mustafa Tariq, and I’ve had the pleasure of calling Dubai my home since 2009. Over the past decade and more, I have witnessed this incredible city transform into a global hub of innovation, luxury, and cultural diversity.

When I first arrived in Dubai, the skyline was already impressive, but nothing like the awe-inspiring panorama it presents today. The Burj Khalifa, which now dominates the cityscape as the tallest building in the world, was still under construction. The city was buzzing with anticipation for its completion, which came in 2010. Standing at 828 meters, this architectural marvel is not just a building but a symbol of Dubai’s relentless pursuit of excellence and ambition.

Living in Dubai has offered me a front-row seat to the city’s rapid development. The infrastructure here is nothing short of remarkable. The Dubai Metro, which began operations in 2009, has made commuting across the city a breeze. The meticulously planned road networks, state-of-the-art public transport, and world-class facilities make life incredibly convenient.

Dubai is not just about towering skyscrapers and luxurious lifestyles; it’s a melting pot of cultures. With expatriates making up over 80% of the population, the city offers a unique blend of traditions and modernity. Festivals from all corners of the globe are celebrated with equal fervor, from Diwali to Christmas to Eid. This cultural tapestry is one of the many reasons I love living here.

One cannot talk about Dubai without mentioning its status as a shopping and entertainment paradise. The Dubai Mall, the largest in the world, offers an unparalleled shopping experience with its vast array of retail outlets, an indoor ice rink, and even an aquarium. The annual Dubai Shopping Festival is a month-long extravaganza that attracts millions of visitors from around the world, offering massive discounts, entertainment, and a festive atmosphere.

The city’s commitment to innovation is evident in initiatives like the Dubai Future Foundation and the ambitious Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, aiming to make Dubai one of the world’s best cities to live and work in. From hosting the Expo 2020 (which was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic) to being a pioneer in adopting smart city technologies, Dubai is always a step ahead.

Dubai’s culinary scene is another highlight. The city offers a gastronomic journey that caters to every palate and budget. Whether it’s savoring street food at the vibrant markets or dining at Michelin-starred restaurants, the culinary diversity is astounding.

Despite its rapid growth, Dubai remains committed to sustainability. The city is investing heavily in renewable energy projects, such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which aims to make Dubai a global leader in clean energy.

Living and working in Dubai since 2009 has been an extraordinary experience. The city has grown and evolved, offering countless opportunities and unforgettable experiences. Dubai’s blend of tradition and modernity, its unwavering ambition, and its commitment to excellence make it a truly remarkable place to call home.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through Dubai. Stay tuned for more insights and stories from this incredible city.

Warm regards,

Mustafa Tariq  – DUBAI
