Celebrations in Ramallah as Palestinian Prisoners Are Released Under Ceasefire Agreement
Ramallah witnessed scenes of celebration as dozens of Palestinian prisoners released by Israel arrived aboard buses, greeted by cheering crowds. An AFP journalist reported that many of the prisoners, dressed in grey tracksuits, were hoisted onto the shoulders of jubilant supporters, while others made their way through the throng of well-wishers.
Prisoners Arrive in Egypt for Medical Treatment
In addition to the release in Ramallah, 70 Palestinian prisoners arrived in Egypt on Saturday, as reported by state-linked Egyptian media. Al-Qahera News confirmed these individuals had been “deported” by Israel and would be transferred to Egyptian hospitals for medical care. Hamas earlier stated that 70 of the 200 freed prisoners would be deported outside of Gaza and the West Bank.
Ceasefire Agreement Brings Exchanges
The prisoner exchange is part of a ceasefire deal aimed at ending the 15-month-old Gaza conflict. Under the agreement, the Palestinian group Hamas freed four female Israeli soldiers on Saturday in exchange for the release of 200 Palestinian prisoners. The move is seen as a pivotal step in easing tensions and addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by the prolonged war.
A Step Toward Resolution?
This exchange highlights ongoing efforts to find a resolution to the Gaza conflict, offering hope for further dialogue and peace-building in the region. As the prisoners reunite with their families and communities, the moment underscores the deeply human impact of political decisions in the region.
