Over Two Dozen Flights to Dubai and Doha Diverted Amid Middle East Airspace Closures
Air travel across the Middle East faced significant disruptions on Monday, with at least 26 commercial flights bound for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, or Doha, Qatar, forced to divert due to sudden airspace restrictions in the region.
According to Cirium, a global aviation analytics firm, 22 of the impacted flights were en route to Doha, while the remaining four were headed toward Dubai. The diversions were prompted by regional tensions and ongoing security concerns, with some flights rerouted to alternate airports, while others were turned back to their original departure points.
Qatar Airways, the flagship carrier of Qatar, operated 12 of the affected flights bound for Doha, highlighting the widespread impact on Gulf aviation. Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest air travel hubs, also experienced disruptions, though on a smaller scale.
Looking ahead, 39 flights from North America and an additional 210 flights from Europe are scheduled to depart for destinations across the Middle East, including Dubai and Doha, later today. However, these services remain at risk of cancellation if airspace over the region remains restricted.
The situation has prompted airlines, airports, and passengers to stay on high alert, especially in Dubai, Qatar, and across the wider UAE, as any extended closures could ripple through international travel routes.
Travelers heading to or through the Gulf are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and prepare for possible delays or changes to flight schedules.
