The History of Diwali

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Rooted in ancient Indian tradition, Diwali commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and his triumph over the demon king Ravana, as depicted in the epic Ramayana. The festival is also associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Celebrated over five days, Diwali involves lighting oil lamps, decorating homes, exchanging gifts, and enjoying grand feasts with family and friends.
