Dubai’s Evolving Job Market: Opportunities for Skilled Pakistani Workers
As Dubai continues its rapid development towards a high-end skilled economy, the demand for unskilled workers from Pakistan is gradually diminishing, according to Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi.
“We now need to train accountants, IT professionals, bankers, AI experts, physicians, nurses, and pilots for the UAE job market,” Ambassador Tirmizi emphasized.
Growing Demand for Skilled Workforce in Dubai
With Dubai’s demand for skilled workers on the rise, Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the vast opportunities available for Pakistanis willing to upgrade their skillsets. Speaking with Gulf News, he discussed shifting job market trends, future plans, and the strengthening partnership between Pakistan and the UAE, focusing on job creation and investment.
High-Paying Jobs in Dubai
“If we train our people in these high-demand sectors, they can secure high-paying roles with salaries starting from AED 20,000, significantly higher than the AED 1,000 or more earned by unskilled workers,” he explained.
The UAE has long been a vital trading partner for Pakistan in the MENA region. The current focus is on enhancing investments from Dubai to Pakistan, building a partnership that goes beyond workforce export to unlocking Pakistan’s economic potential on a global platform.
Meeting Global Skill Demands
Ambassador Tirmizi stressed the importance of skills development in fields like IT, accounting, and healthcare to meet global demands. Highlighting the rising demand for physiotherapists and nurses worldwide, he envisioned world-class nursing facilities in Pakistan to cater to this need.
Aviation Industry Prospects
He also revealed ongoing discussions with international aviation institutions to establish pilot training schools in Pakistan. These initiatives aim to train aspiring pilots at a fraction of the cost, opening new avenues in the aviation industry.
Rising Remittances from Dubai to Pakistan
Remittances from Dubai to Pakistan have surged by 53% in just six months, reaching USD 4.5 billion. Ambassador Tirmizi aims to hit the USD 9 billion mark in remittances by the end of the fiscal year in June.
“This milestone is a testament to the dedication of Pakistani expatriates in Dubai, from blue-collar workers to crane operators and security guards,” he expressed with pride. Remittances have become Pakistan’s primary source of foreign exchange, outpacing export revenues.
A Vision for the Future
Looking forward, Ambassador Tirmizi envisions a Pakistan that meets its domestic needs while carving out a new global identity. His strategy includes promoting Pakistan as a tourist destination, enhancing higher education, and cementing its place in the global economy. Dubai, with its strategic location and robust economy, remains a critical partner in this ambitious vision.
With the UAE’s strategic importance and growing economic influence, Pakistan’s shift towards training a skilled workforce could be the key to a prosperous bilateral relationship that benefits both nations.
