Israeli Strikes on Gaza Intensify as Death Toll Surpasses 44,000
Israeli airstrikes on northern and central Gaza claimed at least 87 lives within 24 hours, local health authorities reported, bringing the total death toll in the enclave to over 44,000 since the conflict began.
In one of the deadliest attacks, at least 65 people were killed in overnight strikes on northern Gaza, according to Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya. He revealed that approximately 200 people were at the site when the Israeli military targeted the area.
Speaking to local media, Dr. Safiya described the dire conditions at the hospital, where medical teams are retrieving bodies from the rubble by hand due to the lack of rescue equipment and personnel. He issued a stark warning that the hospital could become a “mass grave” without immediate international aid, as there are no ambulances available in the region.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, a strike on a family home in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood killed 22 people, including 10 children, according to Dr. Muneer Alboursh, director general of Gaza’s Health Ministry. Rescue operations continue, with officials anticipating the death toll to rise further.
The escalating attacks in Gaza have left more than 104,000 injured and further devastated civilian infrastructure, including homes and medical facilities.
Lebanon Also Targeted
Simultaneously, Israeli airstrikes hit southern Beirut early Thursday, targeting the Hezbollah stronghold of Haret Hreik. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported extensive damage, with multiple buildings destroyed.
The strikes followed evacuation warnings issued by Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee, who highlighted targeted areas in Haret Hreik and Tyre. The strikes occurred as US envoy Amos Hochstein mediates ceasefire talks between Lebanon and Israel. While Hochstein expressed optimism about a potential deal, he stressed that its success depends on both parties reaching an agreement.

The ongoing conflict has drawn urgent calls for international intervention. Gaza’s health system is on the brink of collapse, and civil defense teams are struggling to rescue survivors amidst limited resources. The spiraling violence underscores the pressing need for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to mitigate the devastating toll on civilians.
