Malala Yousafzai to Attend Girls’ Education Summit in Pakistan
Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai is set to participate in a high-profile summit on girls’ education hosted by Pakistan, her home country where she survived a near-fatal attack by militants as a schoolgirl.
Malala, who was evacuated from Pakistan in 2012 after being shot by the Pakistan Taliban for her advocacy for girls’ education, has only returned to the country a few times since the attack.
Sharing her excitement on X (formerly Twitter), she said:
“I am excited to join Muslim leaders from around the world for a critical conference on girls’ education. On Sunday, I will speak about protecting rights for all girls to go to school and why leaders must hold the Taliban accountable for their crimes against Afghan women & girls.”
A spokesperson for the Malala Fund, her charity focused on girls’ education, confirmed her attendance at the event.
The two-day summit will take place in Islamabad on Saturday and Sunday. It will bring together Muslim leaders, activists, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for advancing girls’ education in Muslim communities, a cause that Malala has championed globally.
This event marks an important step in addressing educational inequalities, particularly for girls in regions where access to education remains a challenge.
Malala’s presence highlights Pakistan’s commitment to being at the forefront of advocating for girls’ education and addressing systemic barriers in Muslim-majority countries.
