Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new minimum top-up requirement for nol cards at Dubai Metro stations.
Starting today, Monday, August 19, Dubai Metro users will need to add at least Dhs50 when topping up their nol cards at metro stations.
Back in January 2024, the RTA had already increased the minimum top-up amount from Dhs5 to Dhs20 at metro station offices.
However, this new minimum does not apply if you’re topping up online.
If you haven’t tried it yet, the easiest way to add credit to your nol card is through the nolPay app, which saves you from waiting in long queues at metro stations.
With the app, you can tap your nol card on your mobile device to view details like transaction history, balance, and expiry date—making it super convenient.
You can also check your balance easily through:
– The RTA website
– Shail App
– RTA Dubai App
– The ticketing office at metro stations
Other key points about your nol card:
– A minimum balance of Dhs15 is required on your nol card to cover a round trip on the Metro. One-way fares range from Dhs3 to Dhs15 depending on zones and class of travel.
– A gold nol card gives you access to the Metro’s first-class carriages, while a silver card provides regular access, with specific areas designated for women and children.
– You can also use your nol card for RTA taxi fares, paid parking, and even at the Etihad Museum. Note that the minimum taxi fare using a nol card may vary based on location and time.
In addition, your nol card offers discounts at various attractions in Dubai, and you can use it to pay for groceries and snacks at over 2,000 shops and several casual dining restaurants across the city. Check out our guide to learn more about how and where you can use your nol card in Dubai.
