Pakistani citizens traveling to the UAE on a visit visa will be subject to inspections at Pakistani airports, and may be prevented from departing if they do not meet certain criteria, such as having a hotel reservation, sufficient funds, and a return ticket, according to a senior official on Wednesday.
Travel industry experts have clarified that tourists coming to the UAE from Pakistan and other countries on a visit visa must have Dh3,000 in funds, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation—either a hotel reservation or documentation showing they will stay with a family member. Those who do not meet these requirements may be denied entry and sent back to their home countries.
During a celebration of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day in Dubai, Hussain Muhammad, the Consul-General of Pakistan for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, urged the 1.7 million Pakistani expatriates living in the UAE to respect local laws and customs and contribute positively to society.
He emphasized that the UAE strictly enforces its laws, and violators may face fines and imprisonment.
“Every Pakistani represents our country. Some people come to the UAE on visit visas without meeting the necessary requirements. We’ve discussed this issue, and the FIA (Federal Investigation Authority) along with airport authorities in Pakistan are addressing it. Those who don’t meet the requirements will be stopped at the airport,” Muhammad told Khaleej Times in an interview.
Previously, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, also advised Pakistanis not to seek employment while on a tourist visa.
“Pakistani visitors to the UAE must have a return ticket, Dh3,000 in funds, and hotel accommodation. When on a tourist visa, the focus should be on tourism, as there are many opportunities like visiting museums, mosques, and malls. Do not search for jobs while on a tourist visa; those looking for employment should come on an employment visa,” Tirmizi had told Khaleej Times.
There have been reports in Pakistani media indicating that some GCC countries have expressed concerns about the conduct and law compliance of the Pakistani community.
The UAE remains a top destination for Pakistanis seeking better opportunities. In 2023-24, over 230,000 Pakistanis migrated to the UAE, making it the second most popular destination after Saudi Arabia.
Consul-General Hussain Muhammad also cautioned Pakistanis in the UAE to be mindful of what they share on social media, as it may not align with local laws and cultural norms.
“In the UAE, rules are strictly enforced, and there are no exceptions. Social media is also closely monitored to ensure the country’s peace and security. Sometimes, people share emails and social media posts that are not compliant with local laws. Avoid sharing any posts that are fake or unreliable,” Muhammad advised.
He added, “The UAE has provided us with many opportunities, so we must respect local laws, culture, and live in accordance with regulations.”
