Roads have been upgraded at this busy Jumeirah neighbourhood

If you live in or around Al Safa 1, you’re likely familiar with its bustling roads, especially given the number of schools and the growing number of new restaurants in the area.

To help ease traffic flow, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed traffic enhancements at four key locations within Al Safa 1, with the aim of improving traffic movement and increasing road safety.

These upgrades include widening entry and exit points, introducing traffic-calming measures like new traffic lights, and adding pedestrian crossings.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, explained that these improvements are intended to benefit all road users, including service providers, students, and the approximately 60,000 residents of Al Safa 1.

One notable enhancement includes the addition of a 255-meter lane to the service road from the junction of Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Hadiqa Road toward the roundabout leading to Street 13. This upgrade is expected to reduce travel time to Al Safa 1 by 20 percent.

Another improvement involved the creation of 22 parallel parking slots near Al Safa School and Al Ittihad School to help ease congestion during peak hours, particularly during student pick-up and drop-off times, which we all know can be quite challenging.

In a third enhancement, the exit to Al Wasl Street from Street 19 was widened, with a 330-meter-long lane added and traffic signals improved. Additionally, 18 new parking slots were introduced near Jumeirah College.

The final upgrade included a new U-turn exit on Al Wasl Road, complete with a traffic signal and pedestrian crossing, aimed at reducing accidents and enhancing safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

These developments bring positive news for everyone in the area.
