**UAE Midday Break for Outdoor Workers to End on September 15: Important News for Dubai Businesses**
The UAE’s midday break, a ban on working under direct sunlight and in open spaces from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, will officially conclude on Sunday, September 15, as announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre). This regulation, vital for outdoor laborers, particularly those working in Dubai’s construction and delivery sectors, has been in effect since June 15.
The Ministry reported a 99.9% compliance rate across businesses in the UAE, including Dubai, demonstrating strong adherence to the safety initiative. As part of the campaign, over 6,000 rest stations were established across the country, including Dubai, to provide relief for delivery workers during the midday break.
**Dubai’s Commitment to Worker Safety**
The midday break policy, implemented to safeguard workers from heat stress and injuries during the UAE’s hot summer months, is part of a broader strategy by the Ministry to enhance workplace safety and promote health standards. The policy is crucial for Dubai’s labor force, particularly in sectors like construction, where outdoor labor is common during peak temperature hours.
Mohsin Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at Mohre, highlighted the significant compliance by companies across the UAE, including Dubai, stating, “The UAE’s private sector has demonstrated a high level of commitment to government safety regulations, contributing to a healthier and more competitive labor market.”
**Private Sector Initiatives in Dubai**
Many Dubai-based companies went beyond regulatory compliance, launching their own initiatives to protect workers from heat-related stress. This includes providing shaded areas, adequate cooling systems, hydration supplements, and ensuring access to first aid equipment at work sites.
These safety measures have not only protected workers but have also positively impacted productivity and the overall work environment. Dubai’s private sector has been a key partner in supporting national efforts to promote occupational safety, making the city a leader in adhering to best labor practices across the UAE.
