The Suhail star was observed at 5:20 a.m. today in the UAE skies, particularly from Al Ain. Storm Centre shared a photo of the celestial object on X, captured by Tamim Al-Tamimi, a member of the Emirates Astronomy Society.
There’s an Arab saying: “When Suhail rises, the night cools down.” Although temperatures won’t drop immediately, nighttime temperatures will gradually decrease, marking the first signs of a seasonal shift.
As previously reported by Khaleej Times, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, mentioned that Suhail would first be visible at dawn from August 24.
How do seasons change after Suhail’s appearance?
– **Sufriya**: This marks a transitional period of about 40 days between the intense summer heat and cooler temperatures.
– **Wasm**: Around mid-October, the weather begins to stabilize.
– **Winter**: The cool season typically begins about 100 days after Suhail’s appearance.
Suhail, also known as the ‘Star of Yemen,’ holds a special place in Arab tradition. Its appearance is associated with the unique ‘Durur’ calendar, which divides the year into distinct phases, each lasting one hundred days.
