UAE: Valleys overflow, yellow alert issued as heavy rains lash parts of country

**Dubai Residents Urged to Exercise Caution as Heavy Rains Lash the Country**

As heavy rains continue for the second consecutive day, parts of the UAE, including areas near Dubai, are witnessing overflowing valleys and stunning waterfalls cascading down mountains. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued an alert, warning residents to stay cautious during these adverse weather conditions and avoid areas prone to flash floods.

A yellow alert has been issued, particularly for the eastern regions, including Fujairah, where significant rainfall has been recorded. Videos shared by the Storm Centre on social media platform X showcase flooded roads, heavy downpours, and overflowing valleys. Stunning footage of the wadis in Masafi flowing with rainwater and waterfalls snaking down the mountains has captivated viewers.

The heavy rains have caused water to accumulate on roads, slowing down traffic as vehicles navigate through muddy waters. The movement of cars through shallow floods creates waves, further emphasizing the impact of the downpour. Footage shows cars cautiously driving through rain-soaked streets as rainfall continues to shower the region.

**Weather Developments: Tropical Depression Alert**

On Thursday, the National Centre of Meteorology announced that it is closely monitoring a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea. This system, located near the western coast of India, is expected to deepen into a tropical depression by October 14-15, potentially affecting Dubai and surrounding areas. The NCM cautioned that tropical events can undergo rapid changes and promised regular updates as the situation develops.

**Safety Advisory for Dubai Residents**

The NCM has advised residents, particularly those in eastern and northern areas, to avoid low-lying regions susceptible to flash floods. Additionally, residents are encouraged to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. For those who must travel, the NCM has provided several safety recommendations:

– Drive cautiously and remain vigilant, especially when visibility is low.

– Use low-beam headlights when visibility is reduced.

– Monitor weather updates and comply with official instructions.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Police also took to social media to remind motorists to drive carefully during rainy weather. They emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits displayed on electronic signs and billboards to ensure road safety for all.

As the heavy rains continue, it is crucial for residents in Dubai and across the UAE to stay informed and follow the necessary precautions to remain safe during these challenging weather conditions.
