UAE: Wizz Air launches first long-haul Abu Dhabi-Milan route

Wizz Air has revealed the inaugural route for its new Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft, heralding a new chapter in ultra-low-cost, long-haul travel.

Beginning June 2, 2025, Wizz Air will launch daily direct flights between Milan and Abu Dhabi. This marks the first of many routes to benefit from the Airbus A321XLR’s extended range and efficiency, reshaping intercontinental travel by making it more affordable and accessible, according to the airline.

“We are thrilled to expand on the success of our new routes from Abu Dhabi to Chisinau and Cluj by announcing Milan as the first destination for the Airbus A321XLR,” said Tamara Vallois, Head of Commercial at Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. “This aircraft offers unmatched cost efficiency in its class, and its enhanced range will allow us to connect Abu Dhabi with exciting new destinations as part of our growing network. Our customers can look forward to the most competitive fares on this new route to Milan, while enjoying a sustainable flying experience.”

Nathalie Jongma, Vice-President of Aviation Development at Abu Dhabi Airports, added, “The deployment of the Airbus A321XLR on this route is significant, enabling longer direct flights with narrow-body aircraft. This further demonstrates our commitment to providing passengers with a wide range of destination choices and a seamless travel experience.”

With Abu Dhabi becoming a key aviation hub in the region, the introduction of the Airbus A321XLR opens up new opportunities for connecting Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other regional destinations with Europe and beyond, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a gateway for global travel.
