If you’re like us, you’ve probably tried to make the most of every public holiday in the UAE this year.
Now that everyone is back in Dubai after the summer break, the big question on everyone’s mind is: when is the next UAE public holiday?
The next one on the horizon is the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, which falls on Rabi’ Al-Awwal 12 in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, it’s expected to land on Sunday, September 19.
Many UAE public holidays are based on the Hijri calendar, which follows moon cycles and differs from the Gregorian calendar commonly used worldwide.
If the holiday does fall on a Sunday, current UAE rules mean there won’t be a day off, as public holidays on weekends aren’t carried over. However, starting in 2025, a new cabinet resolution will allow weekend holidays to be carried over to either the end of the previous week or the beginning of the following week.
So, when is the next UAE public holiday that will actually give us a day off?
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until December for the next national long weekend during the National Day holidays. But it will be worth the wait, as both Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3, are marked for time off.
With the weekend included, this means a four-day break. And after that, we’ll have Wednesday, January 1, off to ring in the New Year for 2025.
The rest of the 2025 public holidays have already been announced, with a mix of Gregorian and Hijri calendar dates confirmed.
