Built in the mid-19th century, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (formerly Al Bastakiya) stands as a vibrant symbol of Dubai’s past and cultural future. Located on the Bur Dubai side of Dubai Creek, it was one of the city’s first settlements, thanks to its strategic location.
Entering Al Fahidi is a sensory delight, with the aroma of spices and the sight of traditional tan wind towers greeting visitors. Among its notable landmarks are the remnants of the old Dubai wall and the charming Dubai Museum, housed in the historic Al Fahidi Fort.
The neighbourhood also boasts the hidden gem XVA Art Hotel, which combines an art gallery, cafe, and boutique hotel. Additionally, Al Fahidi offers a range of attractions including numerous art galleries, creative spaces, restaurants, and shops.
A highlight is the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU), where visitors can immerse themselves in Emirati culture, learning about local cuisine and clothing from friendly and knowledgeable staff.
In recent years, Al Fahidi has hosted more frequent events, such as the Sikka Art Fair and unique National Day celebrations.
To visit via public transport, take the metro to Sharaf DG Metro Station and enjoy a short 10 to 12-minute walk to the neighbourhood.
